Rome

During the Roman times there were many developments in the architectural field. Arches (shown in the picture below)  had a huge development and was used throughout a good portion of the designs in this time period. Also developed was the barrel vault which can be described as a bunch of arches put together to make the roof of a building. It gets its name from its resemblance of a barrel. The final important development we are learning about was the dome which was used in so many ways in the world. The domes are just large half spheres stuck to the top of buildings to create a roof. 



Pompeii is one of the biggest reasons we know as much as we do about this culture. When Mount Vesuvius erupted the entire town was buried in ash, luckily enough preserving all of the now priceless artifact that became the basis of what we know happened here. This is why we know so much about the building and furniture, because they were preserved perfectly in meters of ash.
